Some people have oily hair naturally and others develop it from certain habits. Either way, no one likes a having to deal with it. Managing your oily hair doesn’t have to be so daunting or frustrating if you follow these easy tips.
Skip a shampooing or two. When you have oily hair, most people’s reaction is to hop in the shower to give it a shampoo. This depletes your hair’s natural oil levels, which the body responds to by releasing more oil to replace what was lost. Some people’s body overproduces this oil which just leads to greasy hair again. Therefore, it is a good idea to skip out on a shampoo once or twice a week in order to curb oil production.
When you do wash, be sure to thoroughly rinse, at least 30 seconds.
Avoid the heat. High heats promote oil production, so avoiding a hair dryer will help with the grease. Also washing with colder water is helpful in reducing oil production
Try out some dry products. On days that you don’t wash your hair, a dry shampoo can be great for drying out oils as well as absorbing any odors from the oil in your hair. Hair powders are also great for long term absorption throughout the day. Baby powder sprinkled on your roots works great!
Try out hairstyles. If you are constantly straightening your hair, oil production is stimulated from the heat. Straight hair also allows oil to easily slide down your hairs from your roots, making your hair appear more greasy. If you have curly or wavy hair, embrace it!
