How to Make Your Hair Color Last
After we get our hair done, aside from the health of our hair, the next thing on our minds to worry about is how to make the color last. Unfortunately, depending on the hue you chose (we’re talking mainly about you, red!), your synthetic shade can easily rinse out. But whether it’s red, blonde, brown, or black, there are ways to prolong your new do. With a little extra mindfulness when you are washing your hair, you may be able to hold onto your color a bit longer.
- Cold Rinse
I know that a lot of us especially during the colder months take hot showers. But if only you knew how damaging that is for your hair! Washing and rinsing your hair in cold water will help to lock in that color and prevent it from fading or losing its umph.
- Wash Less
Speaking of hair washing, if you can get by with dry shampoo or a no-rinse cleanser, we’d say that is your best bet for as long as possible. Hair does not need to be washed every day! The more you wash your hair, the quicker it will lose its color.
- Avoid Sulfates
You want to try your best to avoid any shampoos with sulfates in them. These are foaming agents that strip your hair strands of its natural oils and color. So when it comes to making your hair color last, avoid sulfates all together.
- Minimizing Clarifying Shampoos
Clarifying shampoos cut through product buildup and oils to leave your hair super clean. Salon stylists usually recommend this when a client is worried that their regular shampoo isn’t getting the job done. But since these are made to remove product buildup from your hair, your hair color tends to go along with it. So say no to using clarifying shampoos if you are trying to make your color last!
- Hair Masks
When all else fails, you can always fall back on a color reviver hair mask. These masks are usually made with color depositing pigments, which will help revive the color in your strands.
Avalanche Salon and Spa wants you to be able to hold onto your salon professional color as long as possible. We hope that the tips above will help you make your hair color last, and when you are ready to revive your hair again with some more color, give us a call to schedule an appointment!
