Is this summer humidity ruining any chances of your hair looking suitable for public eyes? We have the perfect solution for you! The ballet bun is incredibly easy and they make you look chic in an instant!
What’s great about the ballet bun is that you can do it no matter what condition your hair is in! Frizzy hairline? Greasy roots? You can brush it back, spray with hairspray and no one will be any wiser. A great bonus about this buns – after being swirled up on your head for hours, you can have beautiful mermaid waves!
It’s very easy to get the look; simply twist and pin. Pull your hair back, twist until it coils and perfect it with bobby pins (or giant U-shaped pins if you have thick hair). This style works with any placement, whether it’s high on your head, which is more trendy, or low on your nape, which gives a sophisticated look, or even right in the middle.
Follow these steps in order to create the perfect ballet bun:
1. Prep
Any kind of updo is easier to create if your hair is a little dirty. To give cleaner hair a more matte texture, spritz roots with dry shampoo before beginning.
2. Tease
Adding strategic volume can help you customize this style to your face shape. If you have a more elongated face, tease your inner layers on the side, then brush hair over them before pulling it into a bun. If you have a more round face, tease your crown first!
3. Stuff and Pin
Brush your hair into a ponytail, then pull the ends through a doughnut, sliding it up to the base of the pony. As the Bumpit’s softer cousin, this mesh doughnut adds girth and structure to your bun. Fan strands around the mesh on all sides to cover it. To secure, insert two to four pins straight into the now-invisible doughnut. Spray with a strong-hold hairspray.
