Summer is a time for indulging in outdoor activities and enjoying beautiful weather. Many summer days are accompanied by a brightly shinning sun and you’ll want to make sure that your hair is protected from the sun’s rays. There are multiple things you can do to maintain a healthy head of hair during the warm summer months.
Don’t Over-Use Shampoo:
We all know that it is good to wash our hair, but too much washing could have a harmful effect. Over using shampoo can remove natural oils from your hair and scalp making you more susceptible to sun damage. Use a moderate amount of shampoo in an effort to retain some of your hairs natural oils.
Apply Sunscreen to Your Hair:
You wouldn’t get a tan at the beach without first applying sunscreen to your skin, right? Well, why not do the same for your hair? Sunscreen for hair will help protect your scalp and hair from the sun’s rays, making it easy for you to enjoy a nice day on the beach.
Cover Hair When You Can:
Scarves, hats, and umbrellas can all be used to shield your hair from the sun. These items can be used to prevent sun damage, and if your hair is already damaged from the sun these items will give it time to recover. Likewise, when in a pool it will help to cover your hair with a swim cap. A swim cap will limit the amount of chlorine that gets into your hair while also shielding your hair from the sun.
Stay hydrated:
Last but certainly not least, stay hydrated! Drinking water promotes hair growth and health, which are both essential during the summer. The more water you drink, the more hydrated your hair roots will be. To stay properly hydrated, you should be consuming at least 8 cups of water per day. Proper hydration will make your hair follicles stronger and better able to deal with the suns heat.
The summer should be an enjoyable time of the year for everyone. The first step to enjoying summer is making sure that your skin and hair are protected from the blistering sun.
