Forget traditional manicures! Shellac is the new buzz in the world of manicures. Shellac looks very similar to regular nail polish; it even brushes on the same way. However, the polish stays on the nails chip-free for several weeks and only needs to be changed when new growth begins to show! The special formula is made more along the lines of a gel rather than the traditional liquid polish. Shellac was created by California company “Creative Nail Design” and is commonly referred to as the “hybrid of the popular gel manicure.”
Once the gel is applied, it is hardened under a UV light (which has been deemed safe!) The UV light is used between each coat of shellac in order to allow it to dry. This means no one has to fish through your jacket pocket or purse to get to your keys! There are some downsides to using shellac including, nails and nail beds must be healthy, it is more expensive than regular manicures, and most importantly: you can’t do it at home. Shellac is only sold to licensed nail salons.
However, it’s important to mention that there are positives to any cons. Healthy nail beds are a pro in anyone’s book! Though it is more expensive in the short run, shellac lasts for much longer than regular polish which means it may be more cost effective to get a shellac manicure!
