It can be hard to grow your hair out, especially if you aren’t treating it properly. Although it seems like a long and tiresome process, by following the tricks below you’ll be on the road to healthy hair in no time.
- Don’t wash your hair every day
Although it might seem as if it is necessary to wash your hair daily, it is actually damaging. By using shampoo every day, you are stripping away your natural oils, causing your body to produce an excessive amount of oil to compensate. This will then result in oily hair. Therefore, use dry shampoo every couple of days instead of washing your locks daily.
- Use a satin pillowcase
Satin pillowcases not only prevent your hair from getting tangled while sleeping, due to reduced friction, but they also don’t remove all the moisture from your hair as cotton pillowcases do. Satin pillowcases are also known to reduce wrinkles, so a $15 investment in a new pillowcase will benefit both your hair and skin.
- Deep condition once a week
Although it might seem like a process, deep conditioning is rewarding in the end and leaves you with soft, rejuvenated hair.
- Finish your shower with a cold rinse
Soaking your hair in water after washing it will trap the moisture in your hair, resulting in smoother and shinier hair for a longer period of time.
- Brush your hair starting from the bottom
By beginning brushing from the bottom, you can prevent larger tangles from forming in your hair, resulting in less hair loss.
- Don’t use a towel to dry your hair
By tossing your wet hair up in a bath towel, it can lead to breakage and split ends. Instead, try using either a microfiber hair wrap or even an old cotton T-shirt. Both of these solutions are gentler on your hair.
- Don’t use too much product
Everyone should start off with only a dollop of shampoo and conditioner and add more if it is needed. If too much product is added, it can lead to build up and make the hair too oily.
- Try not to use too much heat
Although it is hard to avoid heat tools when it comes to styling your hair, try to only use them only once or twice a week for best results. Instead of straightening or curling your hair, sleep with braids to get natural curls in the morning, or even try an updo.
- Take supplements
Biotin, a vitamin that helps with the proteins found inside hair, skin, and nails, has become very popular recently. This daily vitamin promotes hair and nail growth, making hair maintenance easy.
- Switch up your ponytail
Next time you go to throw in a ponytail, change up your hair tie. Basic black hair ties are known to be damaging and can cause breakage. Lucky for you, creaseless hair ties have been created, allowing everyone to rock a ponytail without worrying about breakage.
